The Best Robot Hoover
The most effective robot vacuum will sweep and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It will also leave clean. Its price is surprisingly low and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are great features.
Be sure to examine the brushes of your robot for tangled hair as well as large debris and wash them if needed. Some models will also empty the onboard dustbin and deposit it in an additional bin at the base. This helps reduce the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and can work while you're at work or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, however it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could complete the task of cleaning a whole home and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a great cleaning job on various rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb and it was able to avoid fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically fills up its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with an intuitive mobile application interface, and it is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it will cost you more and create more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on the amount of dirt they are.
For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price would suggest. budget robot vacuum 's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot-clean that will thoroughly clean a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like adorable eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
